I remember Inventory being a nightmare because you'd have to send Inventory to Job Cost, then post Job Cost to the GL. There's some additonal security settings in the module that aren't present in the others (all security is taken care of from within Sage Desktop now). We used the Inventory module which is sort of separate from the rest of Timberline.

They implemented an install manager that runs on a server, allowing you to push out updates to workstations when they come out (all Timberline versions must be the same on the server and stations). The massive amounts of additional paper this required did not go over well when we got our overages bill for the Xerox printers. Sage release one such update that changed the orientation of reports from portrait to landscape. When Sage releases a reporting update your modificationsВ could be lost if you modified a 'canned' report without saving it somewhere else. If you plan on modifying reports then make sure they are saved in a different location than the originals and add them in the report manager. For instance, I think around 9.5 or 9.6 the install location for Timberline changed. Managing security roles has gotten better over the years, but some stupid things have taken place.

My personal take on Timberline is this: When it works, it works well and will do what most companies need. That was actually the only way I could get comprehensive customer and vendor data to a csv format for importing to ExpressYard's railcar system. I frequently used Event1 Office Connector to pull data in to Excel. They don't use Estimating or PO modules, but everything else seemed to work ok for them. They operate in multiple industries including railcar repair, truck brokerage, enviornmental (green demolition, asbestos abatement, etc), and various others. My previous employer has been using it for years.
